Built In: "Onboarding Done Right"

When a new hire walks into the Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, office of Golden Hippo, they might see a teammate handing off their keys for a weekly car wash, or another teammate headed to the gym for a complimentary conditioning class. They could wave ‘hello’ to a member of the operations team who’s setting up the office kitchen for a happy hour later that day. 

Or, it’s possible they would see Noah, the receptionist, leading an office tour for Carly Campbell, a new hire and HR generalist.

“The onboarding process was great,” Campbell said. “I felt welcomed as a Hippo as soon as I entered the doors on my first day.”

After the office tour, Campbell sat down with the IT helpdesk site lead to set up her equipment. 

“This helped me set up for success for the rest of my day with my team,” Campbell said. 

But even well before her first day, she said she felt incredibly supported by her employer.

“The interview process and conversations I had with my team were amazing, and they welcomed me with open arms even before day one,” she added. “I have already learned so much through my new hire orientation with my teammates! I am excited to see what we will accomplish together.”

It makes sense that Golden Hippo works hard to have such a welcoming environment, considering that the company is employee-owned and wants employees to feel invested — and rewarded — for their work. 

“I am excited to explore the many resources that we have to develop my career here at Golden Hippo,” Campbell said. “I am personally aiming to grow into an HR business partner role.”

By the end of day one, Campbell felt set up for success and excited about the little perks that she didn’t know about before coming into the office.

“I was surprised that the company offers weekly car washes!” Campbell concluded. “On top of all the other perks and benefits, this was an added bonus that I did not learn about until after I joined.”
